INSPIRE is a new biennial initiative that we are launching with the vision of creating a dedicated international meeting focused exclusively on pediatric retina. We hope to organise this summit once every two years, alternating its focus between Pediatric Retinal Surgery and Pediatric Retinal Imaging in each edition. We are delighted to inaugurate the series with a surgery-focused meeting in 2027.
We have intentionally designed INSPIRE as a highly interactive, mentorship-based educational program rather than a conventional surgical conference. In keeping with the current NMC regulations, this is not a live surgical event. Instead, it will be conducted as a closed-door, one-to-one surgical mentorship workshop, limited to eight carefully selected early- and mid-career retina and pediatric retina surgeons from across the country.
Program Outline
Pre-Workshop Faculty Orientation & Case Planning
🗓️ Thursday (January 28, 2027)
- Morning: Visit to our GROW Lab, to showcase our research, and innovation programs. (optional)
- Afternoon: Preoperative evaluation of the surgical cases with the anesthesia, neonatology and pediatric retina teams, followed by faculty case discussions and surgical planning.
Surgical Mentorship Workshop
🗓️ Day 1 & 2 – Friday & Saturday (January 29–30, 2027)
📍 Operation Theatre Block, Narayana Nethralaya, Rajajinagar
- Eight selected participants
- Eight faculty members (four senior international/national mentors and four invited faculty)
- Each faculty member will perform one pediatric vitreoretinal surgical case
- Every case will be followed by an in-depth discussion on surgical planning, intraoperative decision-making, techniques, pearls, pitfalls, and postoperative management in an intimate mentoring environment.
INSPIRE CME
🗓️ Day 3 – Sunday (January 31, 2027)
The concluding CME will be open to ophthalmologists and retina specialists from across the country and will include:
- Keynote lectures by the senior mentors
- Invited faculty lectures
- Presentations by the workshop participants
- Interactive case discussions and panel deliberation

Terms and Conditions
Please note that OT cases are provisionally allotted in advance for academic purposes. The final conduct of the surgery is subject to confirmation on the day of surgery.
This is contingent upon the patient’s systemic and ocular fitness, as patient safety and well-being remain our utmost priority.
In the event that the patient is deemed unfit on the day of surgery, the allotted session will be conducted through a detailed video-based discussion on that particular pathology and its surgical management.
